The main focus of this post is our social media feeds. However, the main purpose of them is to direct traffic to the website decoratedbathroom.com. There you will find a fabulous collection of painted and decorated bathroom sinks, toilets, tiles and accessories. All made by hand, by me, Lynne Sands with love and care. Now for the blog post…
One of the PIA factors of any small business these days who sell their products or services on the internet, is Social Media. I really don’t enjoy having to do it. So much work. I have to make myself do it BIGTIME!!! After I get this current set of blog posts completed, I’m going to load a whole bunch into Buffer a program that automatically posts the content, you still have to come up with it, I don’t have too much problem with that, it’s the last little step, the actual posting that gets me. Some days I refuse to do anything else until I have posted across all the platforms. I am currently maintaining pages or streams or whatever you want to call them on, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google, Houzz, Linkedin and Pinterest, where I get the majority of my traffic from. I should advertise there, I keep thinking I will. Maybe when business gets better after Coronavirus. It is during the outbreak that I am writing this blog post. I think we have been at home here in Nevada for about a month now. I’ve gained 10 pounds, caught up on a bunch of stuff and taken lots of bike rides. I am also trying to add 10 blog posts to my accomplishments. This is number five. Let’s start with Pinterest… (Update early October 2020, Covid is still going on, who knew it would go on, and on, and on like this for so long back in April?) WTF, Sorry but seriously.
Decorated Bathroom Pinterest Feed
I think part of the reason I get so much traffic from Pinterest is that my products really lend themselves to the ‘medium’ and also I’ve had that account for a long, long time now. You can see that all my products have 231.9K monthly views, but look a little closer, not too many repins. It’s just so much work to do all this social media, especially when I really do dislike doing it. After I finish this long stretch of blasting through 10 blog posts, I’m loading all my social media into an application that automatically posts my content. I have to put it all in there, but at least I don’t have to make myself post it two times or more a week. I really don’t have too many followers on any of the platforms, however, I do get some traffic on the site and the links back to my website help very much with my SEO.
Houzz Feed for Decorated Bathroom

For those of you not familiar with Houzz, it’s a great community relating to all things interior design and home-orientated. They have a marketplace where I sell lots of sinks as well as all sorts of idea books, articles, etc. It’s been good for my business, I do get a fair number of orders and also some traffic through to my website, decoratedbathroom.com. You can check out the Houzz profile here, Decorated Bathroom on Houzz.
Instagram Feed
Another PIA of the Social Media world, Instagram, or Insta as I like to refer to it, a little less painful. It’s just another way for Facebook to intrude into our lives and not protect our security. I am not a fan. They are a media company now, who uses technology, like most do! They shouldn’t be allowing all the BS on it, it’s contributing to the political instability in the US. I’m Canadian, and now, more than ever, I want to go home, get in my car and head north. I am writing this post during Coronavirus, so I feel it now more than ever. I always said if something terrible happened, that was it, well, I think this is it, and time for me to go home. I’m hoping to get a place to live right next to the border so I can still keep my business going here in the US. I have to iron out the details, but I think I can and will be able to be home. I’ve been gone for far too long. Back to Insta, what can I say. I hardly have any followers, I could buy crap ones but what’s the point? Most people who come to my site are looking for a painted sink, they are usually older and doing up their forever homes, not all, but many. They aren’t scrolling through Instagram looking for inspiration for their bathrooms. Too much work for too little reward. However, in this day and age, I’m afraid not to have an account, thinking it will hurt me somehow online. The one saving grace is that they posts automatically show up on my Twitter and Facebook so it creates more activity on those platforms.
I’ll just comment on one photo from the Instagram feed above, which is the one of my dog, Bentley on the right. I took that after he had his end-of-life. I always planned on a photo like that, and I loved it when I took it. I posted it on the Doodle Group on Facebook and got over 2000 comments. HOWEVER, now I don’t like it at all. I like the photos from when he was living. When I get my next dog, hopefully coming soon, instead of waiting til they pass to do the photo, I’m going to do it every year on their birthday and they will probably be sitting and for sure, alive. He lived until 17 and 3 months and weighed 70 pounds when he left this world, more before that, he was half lab!!! He ate voraciously up to the very end.
Decorated Bathroom Twitter
Twitter is another place I just don’t do to much, more like just force myself to do a tweet, check out @davidwalliams and get off of there and get on with my day. Hopefully with the addition of Buffer to my workflow, I won’t even have to do that. Just sit there for a few hours, batch write a bunch of tweets, add photos and I hope I’m good. I’m just doing everything possible at the moment to avoid that!
